Hi, I'm Keryn, welcome to my website. During the course of my career I have worked in a range of creative industries including owning my own clothes shop with clothes designed and hand sewn by me. I'm also a qualified florist and make up artist and have worked in both those industries. It was flowers that paid my way through university.
In 2004 I went back to university as a mature aged student and completed a PhD in Creative Writing. I thought at the time that this was the best path to writing a novel. It wasn't. Rather, the experience traumatised me when I discovered that my mind was too free spirited for academia and baulked at literary theory. After nine years of theory I graduated never wanting to write again.
I started to paint during the Covid lockdown. Through the process of painting, the words that had become frozen inside of me since the PhD, began to release and the stories and characters began to come to me. Things started to feel playful again. Art is capricious and free. It comes from the heart and should never have to carry the weight of the world on its shoulders.
These days, rather than label myself according to a narrow definition, I think of myself as a creative storyteller, one who integrates different mediums to tell a story. I'm currently working on a book of illustrated poetry that should be available soon.
Thank you for sharing your time with me.
